Normalizing of stereotypes due to movies
Throughout the years society has used movies and TV shows to stereotype different races. With the repeating stereotyping of the different races it normalizes the way people see different races. A good example of this is shown in the movies based on the Twilight Saga Books by: Stephenie Meyer.
The movies are based on a love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob. The first movie starts out with Bella moving to Forks with her father. Jacob is a member from the Quileute’s and his father is a long time friend with Bella’s dad. Bella and Jacob would spend time with Bella when they were smaller. Jacob with time ends up falling in love with Bella. On Bella’s first day of school she meets the Cullen’s who are vampires. She takes interest in Edward Cullen who at first makes it seem that he doesn’t want to be anywhere near her. But with time Edward wants to learn everything about Bella. With the rival that already exists between the Cullen’s and the Quileute’s, Edward and Jacob start a rival between each other over Bella. They both love her and want her to choose one of them. Bella being in the middle of everything doesn’t know exactly what to do. She loves Edward but at the same time she does not want to loose Jacob.
Jacob starts out being a regular teenage who is in love with Bella. With time he goes through the transformation of being a regular teenager to also being able in turning into a werewolf when he wants to. This transformation from human to wolf is triggered when more vampires start coming and getting closer to Forks. Jacob at first before knowing that he is also half werewolf is seen as a kind person. After the transformation the movie shows him differently. Jacob has changed, in ways he portrayed as an angrier person and short tempered. In the movie there is a part where he says that he is afraid that he wont be able to control his anger and he doesn’t want to end up hurting Bella the way that Sam hurt Emily. Also even though Jacob is in love with Bella and he knows that Bella is in love with Edward he sticks through her side no matter what. Jacob is always there for Bella whenever she needs him. He is there to help her through her break up with Edward and when there are newborn vampires after her he risk his live to keep her safe and protects her.
Jacob’s character in Twilight resembles the historical representations of Native Americans. Movies have always shown that Native Americans as savages and as hot-tempered people. Twilight does not change any of the stereotyping’s that past movie has been showing for years. The movie reinforces most of the stereotypes that every other movie shows. In the movie Jacob and his friends are seen as magical creatures with most people think that Native Americans are some how magical. In twilight it also supports the fact that most Native Americans are short tempered and get mad fast and that they are always fighting to keep their land and family members safe. The movie as well supports the fact that Native American will always be a sidekick to other races. In the movie it shows this because Jacob and the pack of wolves helps the Cullen’s fight off all the newborn vampires. These representations justify the economic and social marginalization of Native Americans because it shows that they are inferior to other races.

I do agree with you that the movie depicts Natives as aggressive people especially when the further movies bring in more natives that transform into werewolves. But it also shows that Natives are very territorial when one of the movies tells the story that started the rivalry. Also, the blog had a more than normal amount of grammatical errors so for future reference i would suggest rereading it to make sure you sound believable.
